Atlético-MG x Cruzeiro: VAR suggested Lucas Romero's expulsion and then reversed the decision. The CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) released, on Thursday morning, the audio of the VAR in the expulsion of Kaio Jorge from Cruzeiro in the draw with Atlético-MG in the 28th round of the Brazilian Championship. The play was reviewed to identify the player and apply the red card. The fourth official stated, in a dialogue released by the entity, that Lucas Romero made a robbery gesture. The VAR team reviewed the situation, and Kaio Jorge was then expelled. (see above)
The incident occurred just after Atlético's equalizer. The goal by defender Ruan Tressoldi, four minutes into the second half, led to complaints by the Cruzeiro players against the decision of referee Paulo Cesar Zanovelli in the origin of the play. The referee awarded a corner, and the Cruzeiro players wanted a goal kick. In the dialogue released by the CBF, Paulo César Zanovelli is informed by the fourth official that midfielder Lucas Romero, wearing the number 29 shirt, made a robbery gesture with his hands. After checking the images, VAR referee Rodrigo Alonso Ferreira informs that it was not Lucas Romero who made the gesture, but rather forward Kaio Jorge, who then receives the red card.
